Normative sexual behavioral practices for adolescents are often difficult to define and assess. Youth experiencing commercial sexual exploitation often struggle to define and utilize personal sexual agency to develop sexual health. Informed by an ongoing research project, this presentation utilizes sexual agency to help assessors and providers engage youth and support their active involvement in their assessment and treatment planning. Sexual agency is defined as a youth’s ability to navigate the bodily concerns, personal values, family and social decisions related to their sexual agency. Participants will learn to design treatment strategies emphasizing sexual agencies, improving problem-solving skills, and matching sexual practices and beliefs with personal, family and community values. Learners will:
- Identify the four components of sexual agency.
- Explore how to help youth survivors of CSE navigate sexual agency.
- Define two treatment targets for sexual agency when working with youth with a history of CSE.
