Youth victimized through commercial sexual exploitation experience a significant number of traumas and chronic stress during their lives before the commercial sexual exploitation. Commercial sexual exploitation then creates an additional layer of complexity. The purpose of the presentation is to describe the complexity of trauma experienced by victims of commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) and the implication for treatment planning. The presentation utilizes a review of approximately 155 psychological evaluations to identify trauma, chronic stress, critical social history, and mental health symptoms for youth with complex trauma.
Learners will:
- Identify three strategies to conceptualize the complexity of trauma and symptoms that victims of commercial sexual exploitation experience.
- Identify Specific social and mental health needs that are often present among victims of CSE.
- Identify how to connect at least three treatment needs to specific treatment plans.
